Sketchbook pages

I got two new sketchbooks from The Artist and Craftsman while we were in Maine. They’re made in India, the pages are made from 100% recycled cotton fibers left over from textile and garment manufacturing. I’ve been thinking so much about how to make things more sustainably and how to maintain a creative practice without consuming so much new material. These felt like a great find. One is a very textured surface that’s been an interesting challenge to work with; the other is hot-press pages with a more subtle texture which has been easier for painting detailed patterns. I also got some beautiful new tubes of watercolors so I’ve been continuing my watercolor explorations in my new sketchbooks. I think I’m enjoying the silliness of doing super geometric patterns but drawing them so slowly by hand, it feels a bit rebellious when anyone could just use a computer to make everything perfectly neat and tidy and fast.
