It’s mid-March now, and we thought we would hit this milestone back in August (haha!) then we thought maybe October, then we were hoping December, then I think we kind of gave up hope for a while. Despite many delays and our generally low morale, work’s been creeping forward and finally all the kitchen floors and walls are done, so now the cabinets can go in!! They started hauling them in (via the back deck) on Monday and used the empty living room as a staging area to store all the parts and pieces during the installation process.

Please note our very cool purple ceiling in the living room! 👆

The cats were absolutely delighted that we got them all these new boxes to hop in and out of and drawers to hide in. They are spending a lot of time exploring these new kitchen features.

We made it this far at a good pace, but then our carpenter got sick and now it’s the weekend so it’ll be another week before they’re finished. BUT!

The appliances arrived today! Holy moly, it’s starting to feel like home. (What’s that to the right of the fridge? It’s going to be a pull-out broom closet! It’s got a tidy front that pulls straight out and inside there’s a metal rack with clips for hanging brooms and mops, and spots to store bottles of soap and stuff. Ingenious! I hope it’ll work as nicely as it looks!)
And what about the windows? They’re in transit, scheduled to arrive on March 22, which is drawing very near. We should have a carpentry team coming on Monday to start installing them. Finally. I daren’t hope to guess when we’ll be able to start using our kitchen again – maybe 2 to 3 weeks?! But then it’ll still be a little longer before the countertop and tiles go in.
